CVE-2026-27586Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authentication bypass via swallowed CA-loading errors

Published Feb 24, 2026 · Updated Feb 24, 2026

Authentication bypass in Caddy before 2.11.1 allows remote attackers to access mTLS-protected services with system-trusted certificates. ClientAuthentication.provision() returns nil after PEM conversion or CA-pool provisioning errors, leaving ClientCAs unset and widening verification to system roots. Exposure requires trusted_ca_cert_file or trusted_ca_certs_pem_files and an unavailable or malformed CA file; successful clients gain the access intended for the private CA.
