Unauthenticated service crash via invalid MSL map
Published Feb 24, 2026 · Updated Feb 24, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in ImageMagick 6 before 6.9.13-40 and 7 before 7.1.2-15 allows remote attackers to crash the MSL interpreter. The map branch in MSLStartElement calls RemapImages with affinity_image without checking that the parsed map produced a live image, then destroys that reference. No authentication or interaction is required when an exposed workflow accepts attacker-supplied MSL; impact is limited to crashing that processing service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
