Interpreter crash via recursive metamethod stack corruption
Published Feb 18, 2026 · Updated Feb 18, 2026
Heap-based buffer overflow in Squirrel 3.0 through 3.2 allows local users to crash the interpreter by running a crafted script. Repeated _set and _get metamethod callbacks recurse through FallBackSet and Execute until SQObjectPtr::operator= reads beyond the VM stack's heap allocation. Local execution of attacker-controlled Squirrel code is required; the demonstrated consequence is a process crash, not confirmed code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
