Local process crash via unchecked compressed stream
Published Feb 18, 2026 · Updated Feb 18, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in The Silver Searcher 2.0 through 2.2.0 allows local users to crash ag with a crafted compressed file. In search_stream in src/search.c, ag passes a null FILE stream to getline while processing the crafted input. The user must run ag with compressed-file searching enabled; the resulting segmentation fault interrupts only that process.
