Service exhaustion via unbounded git grep searches
Published Jul 3, 2026 · Updated Jul 3, 2026
Resource exhaustion in Gitea before 1.25.5 allows remote attackers to interrupt service through expensive repository searches. GrepSearch launches git grep without a command timeout, so attacker-controlled search patterns can keep consuming CPU and other server resources until the process finishes. The network-accessible repository search path requires no privileges or user interaction, and repeated costly searches can exhaust service capacity without affecting stored data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
