Arbitrary file write via ODT path traversal
Published Feb 20, 2026 · Updated Feb 20, 2026
Path traversal in Kovid Goyal's calibre before 9.3.0 allows attackers to write files through a crafted ODT conversion. The ODT reader's extract_pictures function accepts names beginning with Pictures and passes unsanitized .. paths from the archive to open(). A user must convert the malicious ODT; writes inherit that user's permissions, and a Windows Startup-folder payload executes at the next login.
