Service interruption via stale MSL stack index
Published Feb 24, 2026 · Updated Feb 24, 2026
Memory leak in ImageMagick 6 before 6.9.13-40 and ImageMagick 7 before 7.1.2-15 allows remote attackers to interrupt service. The MSL decoder in coders/msl.c sometimes fails to refresh its image-stack index, stores an image in the wrong slot, and omits freeing it on an error path. An application must process attacker-supplied MSL content; repeated failing requests can consume process memory and degrade or interrupt the hosting service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
