Application crash via prototype-chain merge callback
Published Feb 9, 2026 · Updated Aug 26, 2026
Denial of service in Axios before 0.30.3 and 1.0.0 through 1.13.4 allows remote attackers to crash Node.js applications. mergeConfig uses an own proto key to index mergeMap through its prototype chain, obtains Object.prototype instead of a merge function, and calls it, throwing a TypeError. Exploitation requires an application to parse attacker-controlled JSON and pass that object as Axios request configuration; the resulting uncaught exception interrupts that application.
