Authenticated server crash via unsafe planner cast
Published Feb 10, 2026 · Updated Feb 10, 2026
Incorrect type conversion in affected MongoDB Server 7.0, 8.0, and 8.2 releases allows remote authenticated users to crash mongod. Wildcard index validation accepts a compound index whose wildcardProjection only excludes _id; querying it reaches an unsafe planner cast and segmentation fault. Database authorization and the preexisting invalid index are required, and the resulting process crash interrupts service without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.0 <7.0.29
