CVE-2026-25507

Service interruption via freed BLE provisioning state

Published Feb 4, 2026 · Updated Feb 4, 2026

Use-after-free in ESP-IDF 5.1.6, 5.2.6, 5.3.4, 5.4.3, and 5.5.2 allows physically proximate attackers to interrupt devices over BLE. When provisioning stops with keep_ble_on enabled, protocomm_ble frees its state and GATT metadata while BLE services stay active, so later read or write callbacks dereference released memory. Exploitation requires radio proximity, an unauthenticated BLE connection while provisioning is active, and user interaction that stops provisioning but retains BLE; consequences include a crash, heap corruption, or control-flow hijacking.
