Stored XSS via unsanitized custom field output
Published Mar 18, 2026 · Updated Mar 18, 2026
Stored XSS in David Artiss Code Embed 2.5.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through custom field values. The sec_check_post_fields function runs only on save_post, so wp_ajax_add_meta bypasses sanitization before ce_filter writes the stored value into page content without escaping. Contributor-level access is required, and the script executes in the browser of anyone who views an injected page, enabling actions within that user's session.
