Local SYSTEM escalation via handle.exe planting
Published May 26, 2026 · Updated May 26, 2026
Privilege escalation in Genetec RabbitMQ before 3.13.7.19 allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges through binary planting. The Security Center installer grants authenticated users write access to C:\ProgramData\Genetec\RabbitMQ, where erl.exe loads a missing handle.exe as LOCAL SERVICE. Exploitation requires a Genetec-installer deployment and local authenticated access; planted code can use SeImpersonatePrivilege to obtain full SYSTEM control.
