Privilege escalation via unsandboxed mail preview iframe
Published Apr 14, 2026 · Updated Apr 14, 2026
Stored XSS in October CMS before 3.7.14 and 4.0.0 through 4.1.9 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in a superuser's browser. The Event Log mail preview renders logged mail-template HTML in an iframe without sandbox restrictions, so embedded JavaScript runs in the viewer's backend browser context. Exploitation requires mail-template editing permission and a superuser to open the specific log entry, enabling actions with that viewer's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
