Session hijacking via unconditional extension authorization
Published Jan 28, 2026 · Updated Jan 28, 2026
Authentication bypass in Podman Desktop before 1.25.1 allows local users to access authentication sessions through an extension. In packages/main/src/plugin/authentication.ts, isAccessAllowed() returns true without validating an extension's permission for the requested provider and account. An installed malicious extension can therefore impersonate accounts and obtain sessions for connected registries, source repositories, cloud services, and clusters.
