Shell command execution via unsanitized external policy data
Published May 14, 2026 · Updated May 14, 2026
Command injection in Northern.tech CFEngine Enterprise and Community before 3.21.8, 3.24.3, and 3.27.0 allows attackers to run shell commands. CFEngine policy evaluation fails to sanitize externally sourced values before placing them into shell-command contexts for resource promises such as users and packages. Exploitation requires custom policy that processes attacker-controlled external data; the default configuration is not exploitable.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
