Host command execution via cross-context getter lookup
Published May 4, 2026 · Updated May 4, 2026
Sandbox escape in Patrik Simek vm2 before 3.11.0 allows attackers to execute arbitrary host commands through sandboxed JavaScript. Buffer.apply invokes the host lookupGetter on Buffer and proto, exposing Function.prototype and the host Function constructor across the sandbox boundary. Exploitation requires arbitrary JavaScript execution inside a vm2 sandbox; success exposes the host process and its command-execution authority.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
