CVE-2026-24046Network attack vector

File access outside workspaces via symlink traversal

Published Jan 21, 2026 · Updated Jan 21, 2026

Symlink path traversal in Backstage Scaffolder packages allows remote authenticated users to read, delete, or write files outside a workspace. The debug:log action read symlink targets directly, fs:delete removed paths reached through symlinks, and tar extraction accepted links escaping its destination. Access to create and execute Scaffolder templates is required, exposing files available to the Backstage backend process.
