Remote suspension bypass via federated post processing
Published Jan 22, 2026 · Updated Jan 22, 2026
Incorrect authorization in Mastodon before 4.3.18, 4.4.0 through 4.4.11, and 4.5.0 through 4.5.4 allows remote attackers to bypass suspension. Timeline and ActivityPub-processing logic fails to reject boosted known posts and, in affected release branches, new posts from suspended remote users. Exploitation requires federated content from a suspended remote account; the bounded impact is unauthorized timeline placement, not data disclosure or service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
