Unauthenticated settings access via fail-open middleware
Published Jan 19, 2026 · Updated Jan 19, 2026
Incorrect authorization in MyTube before 1.7.66 allows remote attackers to access protected API routes without an authentication cookie. The roleBasedAuthMiddleware treats an absent req.user value as permission to call next(), so downstream protected handlers receive the request. Exploitation requires loginEnabled to be true and permits unauthenticated reading or modification of settings, including administrative and visitor passwords.
