Local system crash via uncaught memory-mapping exception
Published Jan 22, 2026 · Updated Jan 22, 2026
Denial of service in VB-Audio Voicemeeter and Matrix virtual audio drivers allows local users to crash affected Windows systems. Their device-control handlers call MmMapLockedPagesSpecifyCache with UserMode access but do not catch the exception raised when mapping fails. Any unprivileged local process that can open the device and exhaust its address space can invoke the applicable IOCTL and force a BSoD, with no reported data access or modification.
