Local privilege escalation via setup replacement race
Published Mar 10, 2026 · Updated Mar 10, 2026
TOCTOU in CODESYS Installer before 2.6.1.0 allows local users to execute a malicious application with elevated rights. The installer verifies a downloaded setup, then leaves a race window in which a low-privileged user can replace it before the administrator-level update process executes it. Exploitation requires a low-privileged local account and a legitimate user who confirms the installer self-update prompt or starts a CODESYS Development System installation; add-on updates are unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
