Pool-admin escalation via backend-local VDI mapping
Published Jul 9, 2026 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Privilege escalation in XAPI allows local users with the vm-admin role to read or modify arbitrary dom0 files through a crafted VBD. The VBD.other_config:backend-local setting accepts a dom0 file path and exposes that file as a VDI to an attacker-controlled VM. Exploitation requires pool RBAC and a non-pool-admin administrative role; access to dom0 files grants pool-admin-equivalent control.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
