Networking stack hang via suspend callback deadlock
Published Apr 3, 2026 · Updated Apr 3, 2026
Deadlock in the aqc111 USB network driver in the Linux Kernel allows local users to hang the networking stack during device suspension. The aqc111_suspend callback invokes power-management write routines while its parent USB device is already suspending, causing rpm_resume to wait indefinitely. Exploitation requires an affected kernel with the aqc111 driver and a suspend transition; the stalled path blocks a task holding rtnl_lock and interrupts networking.
