System crash via overwritten I2C error state
Published Feb 14, 2026 · Updated Feb 14, 2026
Denial of service in Linux Kernel 6.13 through 6.18.9 allows local users to crash the system through a malformed SMBus block read. The controller interrupt handler replaces the failure state with a read-continuation state after an invalid length, causing an endless read loop and buffer overrun. Access to the configured bus-controller path and the ability to provoke an invalid block length are required; the bounded consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
