Local privilege escalation via linkwatch use-after-free
Published Feb 14, 2026 · Updated Feb 14, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux Kernel 6.15 through 6.18.9 and 6.19 release candidates allows local users to elevate privileges. linkwatch_do_dev() drops a device reference before __linkwatch_run_queue() finishes using it, allowing netdev_run_todo() to free the object before netdev_unlock_ops() dereferences it. Unprivileged local users can reach the race through a user namespace with CAP_NET_ADMIN; exploitation enables kernel memory access or control-flow hijacking, while a failed attempt can crash the kernel.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
