Kernel interruption via empty BIOS attribute names
Published Feb 14, 2026 · Updated Feb 14, 2026
Improper input validation in Linux Kernel 6.6 and later allows local users to interrupt service on systems with malformed HP BIOS attributes. hp_init_bios_buffer_attribute() passes an empty name parsed from a WMI buffer to kobject registration instead of rejecting the attribute. Reachability requires the hp-bioscfg driver on HP hardware whose BIOS exposes an empty attribute name; the documented outcome is repeated kernel warnings.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
