Application crash via unvalidated PKCS#12 attributes
Published Jan 27, 2026 · Updated Jan 27, 2026
Type confusion in OpenSSL PKCS#12 parsing allows local users to crash an application by supplying a malformed PKCS#12 file. The parse_bag function in crypto/pkcs12/p12_kiss.c reads friendlyName and localKeyID ASN1_TYPE union members without first validating their tags. A user or application must process the crafted file; the invalid one-byte pointer reaches the normally unmapped zero page, limiting impact to a process crash without code execution or data disclosure.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=1.1.1 <1.1.1ze
