Stored XSS via parsed autocomment messages
Published Jan 8, 2026 · Updated Jan 8, 2026
Stored XSS in Wikimedia Foundation Wikibase 1.39, 1.43, 1.44, and 1.45 allows remote authenticated users to run script in viewers' browsers. Wikibase appends parsed system-message HTML to autocomments, after which CommentParser replaces wiki-link syntax inside an element attribute and creates executable unsafe HTML. A user with permission to edit MediaWiki interface messages must plant the payload, and a victim must view an affected history or recent-changes page.
