Arbitrary file overwrite via unchecked archive paths
Published Jan 10, 2026 · Updated Jan 10, 2026
Path traversal in DevToys 2.0.0.0 through 2.0.8.0 allows context-dependent attackers to overwrite files via a malicious extension package. ExtensionInstallationManager combines each untrusted NUPKG entry name with the extension directory and passes the result to ExtractFile without verifying that the resolved path remains inside that directory. Exploitation requires a user to install the crafted package; files are written with the DevToys process privileges, enabling configuration tampering, file corruption, or code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
