Out-of-bounds read in QEMU on affected Red Hat products allows local users to leak 12 bytes or crash QEMU via a crafted VMDK image. The vmdk_read_extent function accepts a compressed-grain marker size without subtracting the 12-byte marker header, so zlib reads beyond the allocated cluster buffer. Exploitation requires processing an attacker-controlled VMDK with qemu-img or attaching it to QEMU; the documented impact is limited to a 12-byte disclosure or process crash.
