Service interruption via dataset stack exhaustion
Published Jan 27, 2026 · Updated Jan 27, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in Suricata before 7.0.14 and 8.0.0 through 8.0.2 allows remote attackers to crash the engine. The StringAsBase64 function sizes a variable-length stack buffer from each dataset string before Base64 encoding, so an oversized value exhausts the process stack. Exploitation requires a rule using a dataset save or state option; a successful trigger interrupts network inspection by crashing Suricata.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=< 7.0.14
