CVE-2026-22050Network attack vector

Premature snapshot deletion via cleared expiry time

Published Jan 12, 2026 · Updated Jan 12, 2026

Improper authorization in NetApp ONTAP allows remote authenticated users to remove snapshot retention protection in 9.16.1 and 9.17.1 releases. With snapshot locking enabled in 9.16.1 before 9.16.1P9 and 9.17.1 before 9.17.1P2, the snapshot expiry-time update accepts none for a locked snapshot instead of preserving its retention period. The operation requires privileged access and permits snapshots or their containing volumes to be deleted before the configured retention period ends.
