Authenticated MFA bypass via unrestricted relying-party domains
Published Jul 22, 2026 · Updated Jul 22, 2026
Authentication bypass in NetApp ONTAP 9.16.1 through 9.18.1 allows remote authenticated users to bypass WebAuthn MFA in System Manager. The WebAuthn flow accepts relying-party domains without restricting them to an administrator-approved set, allowing a valid first-factor session to evade the registered FIDO2 challenge. Exploitation requires valid credentials and a cluster with WebAuthn MFA enabled; the bypass grants the account's existing ONTAP access without the second factor.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
