Authenticated root command execution via newline injection
Published Feb 8, 2026 · Updated Feb 8, 2026
OS command injection in D-Link DIR-823X 250416 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands as root via UPnP requests. The /goform/set_upnp handler passes the upnp_enable POST parameter through a blacklist that omits newline characters, then concatenates the accepted value into a /sbin/uci shell command. Administrative credentials are required; a newline terminates the intended configuration command and executes injected instructions with root privileges.
