Authenticated root command execution via unsanitized FOTA URL
Published Feb 8, 2026 · Updated Feb 8, 2026
Command injection in D-Link DWR-M921 1.1.50 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands through the FOTA web endpoint. The sub_419920 handler accepts an fota_url containing an allowed scheme, interpolates it with sprintf into a shell command, and passes the result to system() without neutralizing shell metacharacters. Access requires an authenticated web session, and injected commands execute with root privileges on the router.
