Authenticated root command execution via newline injection
Published Feb 8, 2026 · Updated Feb 8, 2026
OS command injection in the DDNS Service of D-Link DIR-823X 250416 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root. The /goform/set_ddns handler writes newline-containing DDNS parameters to UCI without filtering line breaks, then restarts the DDNS service so its shell script interprets the injected line. Administrative credentials are required; successful exploitation provides root-level control of the router and its data and services.
