Local privilege escalation via unchecked WLAN buffer copy
Published Mar 2, 2026 · Updated Mar 2, 2026
Classic buffer overflow in the WLAN STA driver for MediaTek chipsets allows local users with System privilege to escalate privileges. The driver copies an input buffer without the bounds check needed to keep the copy within its destination; MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function or input path. Exploitation requires existing System privilege and no user interaction, and the resulting higher privilege boundary remains undisclosed.
