System crash via improperly validated base-station input
Published Feb 2, 2026 · Updated Feb 2, 2026
Reachable assertion in MediaTek Modem allows physically proximate attackers to crash a device through a rogue base station. The modem accepts improperly validated base-station input and reaches a fatal assertion, but MediaTek has not disclosed the message, parser, or assertion site. Exploitation requires the user equipment to connect to an attacker-controlled rogue base station; no privileges or user interaction are required.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
