Local privilege escalation via unchecked imgsys write
Published Feb 2, 2026 · Updated Feb 2, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek MT6897 and MT6989 imgsys allows local users with System privilege to escalate privileges. The imgsys component omits a buffer-boundary check before writing, permitting data outside the intended buffer; MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function or input path. Exploitation requires existing System privilege and no user interaction, and the resulting access can compromise device confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
