Device crash via modem out-of-bounds write
Published Feb 2, 2026 · Updated Feb 2, 2026
An out-of-bounds write in MediaTek chipset modem firmware allows remote attackers controlling a rogue base station to crash a connected device. The modem fails to validate base-station input before writing beyond an intended buffer, but MediaTek has not disclosed the affected parser, message type, or write operation. Exploitation requires the user equipment to connect to the attacker's rogue base station; it needs no device privileges or user interaction and affects availability only.
