CVE-2026-20240Network attack vector

Authenticated service interruption via arbitrary path renames

Published May 20, 2026 · Updated May 20, 2026

Improper input validation in Splunk Enterprise allows remote authenticated users to interrupt service through the Splunk Archiver app. The coldToFrozen.sh script accepts arbitrary file paths and renames them without restricting operations to safe directories. A low-privileged account without the admin or power role can rename critical directories and leave the instance non-functional; Splunk's updated advisory excludes Splunk Cloud Platform.
