Improper access control in Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud Platform allows remote authenticated users to disclose stored credentials. The conf-passwords REST endpoint fails to enforce the admin or power role requirement and returns hashed or plaintext values from passwords.conf. Any low-privileged account without either role can retrieve credentials over the network, with no reported ability to modify data or interrupt service.
