Process crash via unchecked MDL7 transform count
Published Aug 17, 2026 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the MDL7 parser in Open Asset Import Library Assimp 17c12da allows attackers to crash a process via a crafted file. In MDLLoader.cpp, ParseBoneTrafoKeys_3DGS_MDL7 iterates on the untrusted transmatrix_count field and advances pcBoneTransforms without first validating that the full bone-transform span remains inside the frame buffer. Reachability depends on an application importing attacker-supplied MDL7 content; the public PoC demonstrates a sanitizer-detected heap over-read and crash, not published code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
