Credential guessing via missing login throttling

Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026

Improper login throttling in opensourcepos Open Source Point of Sale 3.4.0 through 3.4.2 allows remote attackers to guess credentials. Login::index passes each unauthenticated POST to login_check without an attempt counter, lockout, or IP throttle, and the rule checks passwords before optional CAPTCHA validation. Repeated guesses require no CSRF token; distinct password and CAPTCHA errors disclose a correct guess, while default CAPTCHA settings permit the resulting authenticated session.
