Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unrestricted settings import
Published Aug 22, 2026 · Updated Aug 22, 2026
Privilege escalation in WPeMatico RSS Feed Fetcher 2.8.24 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to become administrators via settings import. The wpematico_import_settings function decodes an uploaded settings file and calls update_option for every supplied key without checking manage_options. Subscriber-level access suffices to enable registration, set Administrator as the default role, and create a new administrative account.
