System crash or privilege escalation via kernel-stack write
Published Aug 20, 2026 · Updated Aug 20, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in IBM AIX 7.2 and 7.3 and PowerVM VIOS 4.1 allows local users to corrupt kernel memory via a crafted filesystem image. During directory reads, insufficient validation lets crafted filesystem metadata drive an out-of-bounds write to the kernel stack. Reaching the flaw requires local high privileges and access to present the image; exploitation crashes the system and can enable privilege escalation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
