Code execution via repository-controlled Git filters
Published Sep 1, 2026 · Updated Sep 2, 2026
Code execution in OpenAI Codex app for macOS 260202.0859 through 26.513.31313 allows attackers to run programs from crafted workspaces. Automatic Git metadata and working-tree inspection honors repository-controlled attr.tree and clean or process filter settings, causing Git to launch the configured program outside the command sandbox. Exploitation requires Git on PATH and a workspace whose local .git/config remains intact; an ordinary Git clone does not preserve that file.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=260202.0859 <=26.513.31313
