CVE-2026-19590

Code execution via trusted repository hook path

Published Sep 1, 2026 · Updated Sep 3, 2026

Code execution in OpenAI Codex app for macOS 260202.0859 through 26.513.31313 allows local users to run attacker-controlled Git hooks. Automated Git helper operations honor core.hooksPath from the repository's preserved .git/config, causing Git to load hooks from an attacker-controlled directory outside the command sandbox. Exploitation requires a user to open a copied or archived repository that preserves this local configuration; the hook then runs with that user's privileges and can read, change, or delete accessible files.
