Privilege escalation via unchecked notebook template interpolation
Published Sep 10, 2026 · Updated Sep 10, 2026
Code injection in Rapid7 Velociraptor before 0.77.2 allows remote authenticated users to run VQL with elevated permissions. Notebook restore interpolates stored cell content into a template without ACL checks, so a planted query crosses the editor's permission boundary. Exploitation requires investigator-role NOTEBOOK_EDITOR access and a later backup restore; the query can read or modify data available to elevated VQL execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
