Application crash via misvalidated WAV chunk length
Published Mar 23, 2026 · Updated Mar 23, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in GStreamer WAV parsing on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 through 10 allows attackers to crash media applications. In gst_wavparse_adtl_chunk(), the bounds check validates lsize + 8, but the parser advances by 8 + GST_ROUND_UP_2(lsize), exceeding validated input when lsize is odd. A crafted WAV file must reach an application using the affected plugin; the bounded consequence is an application crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
